Spring
Break
I am so
excited that I am back in school and I can finally say “I am on spring break!” Even though I don’t go on vacation I do try
to enjoy myself. Although, usually when I
hear the words spring break that means I am working overtime and not relaxing
at all. I work at a pediatric dental
office and we are very busy during the days that children are out of school. I had so many things planned with my family
and friends, even though I still had to work during the day. I have been back in school now for three semesters
and really don’t have a life during the week besides going to school and work.
I was so ready to not have any classes, homework or quizzes. The first few days went by so fast because I actually
got a full day at work and I didn’t have to leave early to go to school. By Friday morning my plans were made for the
weekend. My friends and family had planned a very exciting event. On the
morning of March 9, 2012, I had only planned on only working a few hours and
being off between 10 and 11 o’clock that morning but things then changed. I received a call around 11:30 a.m. from my
mother saying that my grandfather was being transported to the emergency room
and I needed to get there as soon as possible. My mom sounded nervous because
my grandfather has many medical issues.
You see my big plan for this weekend was attending his 86th birthday party
and now the family is headed to the emergency room. I was so scared driving there because I knew
my grandmother (who is 85 years old and hardly ever drives) was the only one
there with him and she had to drive him.
Then I thought OMG my grandmother hasn’t driven a car in a long time. I was
so thankful to be only a few minutes away.
Once arriving to the emergency room
and getting triage by the nurse, we then immediately straight back for the exam
by the doctor. A doctor and nurse came
into the room to check my grandfather’s blood pressure and oxygen levels. At the time of his initial check, his oxygen
level was a little low and his fingers and toes were numb and he was very pale.
The nurse was concerned because of his history of high blood pressure, fluid
problems and a pacemaker. Several blood
test and heart test were then performed. After several hours of waiting and
being monitored the doctor, finally came in with the results. Come to find out my grandfather was going to
be ok; he was just a little dehydrated and needed some fluids. Our family was so relieved because we had received
good news that everything would be ok and we would be able to continue with his
party. Along with his family and some of his friends attending the party, I
could see how much better he was. I was so thankful he was ok to see his 86th
birthday.
